As one can see, Buddah loves watching one end of the pond,  while the lady looks from another veiw.
We are all waiting patiently for the lotus and pond lilies to make their appearence.   Then we can all paitn them!
But the peoni, poppies and iris's are looking just fine!

LOTUS UPDATE

I believe the lotus plant in the pond has at least 4 shoots!  It wintered well, so we WILL have some blooms again this year. We have 12 gold fish and lots of little black ones and a big black one!

Trying to get the painting MOJO back....

I have been working on "BIRCH TREES" requested by a student, and they really are beautiful....they hold light that other trees dont, they all age differently, some are grouped, some are alone....they really are an amazing subject.  I came across an artist that captures them quite well. I  beleive her name is CECE TURNER....artist out of Texas...any way, looking to get over the gray lump in life,,,
What is a sail-boat with out a sail?

I think i will do this in pencil, I need to keep my head preoccupied til the sun is warm!

POMaGRANITES?

I had never even tasted a pomagranite, but i must say, I am OVER THE MOON when i look at the luscious colors it has to offer!. All the shades of pinks and reds, to a rich blood red in the center to a soft delicate pink on the exterior of this curious fruit!  I purchased a couple at work, not sure why...to eat, or to paint.??
 being new to the POM world, i was curious as to how to cut it, like, a tomatoe, if you cut it wrong, you have a real mess on your hands, and it may be messy to look at as well.

The only Poms i have seen, were in pictures of paintings done by the masters...the light hitting the seeds as they are sprawled across a dish of light, the contrast of deep tissue red, and the only highlighting is atop of those delicate seeds.  Were they always as rich to eat, as to paint?  Have they always been known to be healthy, or has science just made us aware?  How could something with such posture, not be magnificent for the soul!  How could it NOT be almost the core of visual surprise and delight...where does this magnificent fruit come from?

I somehow locked myself out of my blog...but figured my way back in!  How confusing is that~ 
I am also trying to figure out how to WATERMARK my images and make them non-printable!  So if there are any techies out there that no how to do this, Im up for a lesson!

I am saying how pleased i am with the "Sepia Class" we did...I just wish everybody was there to enjoy the class.
Jackie chose to take a COLOR painting and transform it into detail tones grading the values!  KUDOS JACKI! you did a great job!
I think we will revisit this project, and just hope the rest of the class shows up to jump on board!

This weeks class was kind of a review of last week. Values?

After we did it in color last week, I saw that the students were afraid to go as dark as they needed to in the foreground.  This is what makes this type of painting, it make you feel you are IN the painting, looking through the branches.  A lot of people missed class last week, (9/13/11)

So we will do it again. Also, i want students to start looking at old family photo's. Its time to do the SEPIA SERIES. Its a great way to learn values, or the VALUE of a VALUE study!
